The Lenses We Look Through: Unconscious Bias at Work

What do we mean when we talk about unconscious bias? How are these biases formed? Through
non-judgmental discussion and activities, we explore what factors influence how we perceive others as well as how others perceive us. We will facilitate a safe and structured discussion, providing all participants with an opportunity to learn the definition of unconscious bias, information about how it impacts the workplace, and tools for self-awareness and action. Unconscious biases are the mental shortcuts our brains take to help us make decisions quickly. This course is aimed at raising awareness of how unconscious biases work and how they can negatively influence workplace interactions.

Over three two-hour sessions, participants will explore ourselves and the bias we bring. This series includes both concrete facilitation, engaging activities, personal reflection, and small and large-group discussions.

Workshop #2 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion – 4/26/23 @ 9 a.m.
This workshop explores the larger concepts of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion). We will begin by breaking down each definition and defining them in our own terms, and within the context of our culture, society, and our workplaces.
Participants will then create their own working definitions as we explore what these words mean in our world and the ways in which we can further practice their true meaning in practical ways, both at work and in our personal lives.

About the Instructors:

Karen Blumberg is Adaptiva HR’s Senior Management Consultant. As an experienced workshop facilitator, Karen brings great joy and passion to helping individuals and teams learn and grow. She helps identify how Learning & Development can address key needs within an organization and create a comprehensive plan to extend learning beyond a workshop. As a seasoned mental health clinician, she provides knowledgeable, compassionate support to employees when they are experiencing something distressful.

Molly Ritvo holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Emerson College and a BA in English and Judaic Studies from Tufts University. She has a significant background in communication and writing across many disciplines including fiction, creative nonfiction, journalism, and marketing. She has worked in higher education and for empowering nonprofit organizations. A natural storyteller, Molly is compelled to create content that inspires and nurtures her readers. At Adaptiva HR, Molly leads all communication work, tells our story, and shapes the brand to authentically reflect our values and work.
