Artist to Artist: Copyright Law 101

During the workshop, participants will learn the ease with which an artist can copyright their work and the protections involved, presenters will also review what a trademark is and how can artists use patents.
The first part of the workshop will be held at the Monadnock Center for History and Culture at 19 Grove St. in downtown Peterborough NH from 10am-12pm. This part will cover basic copyright law and how artists protect their work and ideas.
The second part of the workshop will be held across the street from the Monadnock Center at Harlow’s pub from 12:30pm-2pm. Attendees are welcome to order lunch from Harlows during the workshop or arrive at 12:30pm having already eaten. This part of the workshop wil focus on how copyright laws and practices function in the digital age. Artists will learn tactics to protect their work online.
“We will also discuss the importance of social media to today’s working artist,” says presenter Kate McGovern.

About our presenters:
Peter and Kate McGovern present regionally, nationally and internationally in those areas where Art and the Law meet. They are sought after as legal consultants to artists, educational institutions and artistic organisations. They are presently consulting with an Indian Law school as it builds its inaugural Entertainment Law programme. Professor and Dr. McGovern teach as adjunct professors at the University of Connecticut School of Law.
